I like the anime style and have no objections to those who constantly employ it, but it would be interesting to see how you'd draw without it.
Like when some guy who's been a goth for the past ten years suddenly grows up, stops spending the first hour of every day dressing up, and realises nobody cares what he looks like, that life away from his bedroom mirror is actually incredibly interesting, and people start to find him worth talking to because he actually has genuine, personal interests and is no longer just a pathetic, walking cliche.
..possibly went off on a tangent there.
