she then retells the entire story to her husband, and he just turns around and says something a little like, 'Oh that'ok darling, sounds like you had quite a journy, welcome back'

IIRC she doesn't actually tell him
he guesses it, and "Thank you for coming back to me" is basically his discrete way of saying "I know, but it's ok".
