Red matter that can implode anything? Fine, we'll go along with that nonsense because it might be some exotic matter that is just a convenient ultimate-weapon. But when the plot gets to "Ok, we're stranded on this remote iceplanet and the ship is zooming away really quickly and we need to catch up" it's a bit lazy to just say "Oh, let's just beam there using this wonderful technology that I've conveniently been working on and might beam us into the water processing unit with hilarious results".
Indeed, all the "comic" moments were a bit "errm" to me.

But come the fuck on, the ground rules for transporters have been around for years, it's just fucking wrong.
Come to think of it, Spock has Kirk ejected onto a hostile planet for no other reason than he's pissing him off. That's a much bigger WTF moment for me. Why didn't anyone else on the bridge question this?
