Well....
segs are metal studs hammered into the parts of a shoe which wear down the most; side of the heel usually. Hardly ever the sole because of the long nails used to fix them in place....

I should add you really need to be a child of the seventies (or earlier) to know what Segs are. But 50% of the school shoes in my primary school sported these.
