Back at my folks I have a Spectrum +2A. The original actually Sinclair 48K has died :( So, I think, has the DKTronics plastic-key shell we bought to make it a dimly pleasant computer to type on. I do have a massive load of tapes that are probably now all dead.

Great link.!
It's INSANE what they did with that hardware; that site alone shows the evolution of programming from simple*, advanced, extreme** and honed.
* wanted to used the word basic
** not meaning the type of development

The only game which I've ever been completely captivated by is Chuckie Egg on the BBC Micro.
Do you know of a faithful reproduction of it for Windows? I couldn't see it on your link.

no problem
only issue might be it's not totally trivial to play it without being online. i've never played chuckie egg before. i got to the second screen. i think i should hand in my geek badge and crawl beneath a bridge or something.

In 1983 I got to level 23 without being online, 20 years later I'm online for >50% of my waking hours.
I'll happily endorse any geek badge you need endorsing.

Good :)
I also found a remake of Chaos online that works remarkably well. If you were a BBC owner you'll have missed out on the glories of Chaos. It was glorious. www.vectorlight.net/games/chaos_tournament.aspx
