I'm convinced that many of these policies against the less well-off ARE meant to create divisions, mis-trust and even hatred. That way, the government is not to blame for a shit soociety - it's the blame of the poor, the scroungers and the immigrants :(

...whilst 'decent' monied people like A4E company directors, arms maufacturers, tycoon types,landed gentry (who often got the land at the point of a sword knife crime!), bankers, estate agents, unscroupulous developers, libel lawyers, etc. 'are all in it together'.
