'In a conservation area such as Upgate in Louth, we use a more subtle colour for our yellow lines and paint them about half as wide.

'This is to make sure our road markings help to protect the town's unique character.

'In designated ugly areas, we paint them three times as wide, and luminous, to stop anyone getting ideas.'

# Surely yellow lines should be constant throughout the country?
I'm sure that the Green Cross Code has nothing it about double subtle yellow lines?

# now I think about it,
there were roads in Durham where the lines were thinner and paler, I did notice it at the time but I didn't know the reason.
