After the Dr. Who gig, he found it hard to get work. Typecast as a robot dog, just because he was, in fact, a robot dog, parts were few and far between. Apart from a couple of appearances on Blankety Blank, and a walk-on in The Bill, The Eighties were a lean time. By 1990 he was living rough, and had developed a serious WD-40 problem.
After hooking up with a group of New-Age Travellers, he then dropped off the radar completely. He was last seen in the company of a crusty called Sewage, wearing a red spotted bandana and a string leash, begging outside HMV in Oxford Street. He reappeared in the late 1990s on the Free Party scene, as the main amplifier of the Fluffy As Fuck Sound System.
Then in 2000, at a warehouse party in Hackney, he met Elizabeth Sladen. They went on to have a brief affair, and although their liason didn't last - she claimed in an interview that he was still having problems with "The 40" - they remained friends, and this led to his getting the part on her TV show. Since her death he has continued to work, mainly in Australia.
