we like to keep our pictures a bit smaller than that, there's an FAQ about it here.
If you are resizing it you can use the Edit button underneath the image instead of deleting and reposting.

So what is a good image size, I host on Imgur which doesn't keep track of how many kb you use.Because 400 is pretty small, but that is what the FAQ says.

for kb 100k for a still image and 400k for a gif are the old requirementsas for dimensions, the front page is only 400wide but up to 600 is probably average
