but enormous pngs tend to do this

# I don'tknow if it's still possible, but b3ta used to allow BMP images. The huge ones would load from the bottom up.

# Some of these new-fangled gifs won’t show on my computer, but they will show on my phone.
That means that I have to do endless upgrades, or what?
No idea.

# I wasn’t talking about your silly effort….I was talking about more modern gifs, like eclectech’s on the FP.

# Or it's sufficiently advanced that it only seems like cheap scifi schlock..?
1970s Dan Dare is an acquired taste. Arthur C. Clarke it ain't. It reads like rejected Blake's 7 scripts, Dare is basically Bayban the Butcher.

1970s
were you expecting up-to-date non-binary inclusive wokery?
Dan Dare didn't have that, probably why it was so popular and is still instantly recognised.
And your mum looks like the Mekon.
so nerrr

# No, but I was expecting the wholesome heroic character of Dan Dare to inhabit the comic strip named Dan Dare.
For the 1950s, Dan Dare was pretty woke. Full of bigotry by today's standards, but it was promoting inclusivity, equal rights for the sexes and races, internationalism, and all that good stuff by the standards of the time. 2000AD's first efforts were just trolling the fans with this bigoted anti-hero.

# What about the 80s version?
(, Sat 21 Jan 2023, 12:24, archived)
# Loved it at the time. Best version of The Mekon ever. Also the computer game was great.
90s: the Revolver story was just okay. The Virgin comics were fine.

I absolutely loved the 2002 cartoon. It's a shame it wasn't a bigger hit, and a pity that the whole series never got a video/DVD release.

Since then I've not been keeping up TBH. I hear good things about Spaceship Away though.
