valve are probably gonna release it through steam on the 30thsierra/vivendi/whatever are saying it'll be in the shops in oct/nov

That DEFINITLYsounds like the most likely thing!
Gabe Newell in a recent interview said it WILL be out on the 30th, but shops will be informed before they receive it....which sounds to me like they want to make more from Steam!
