edit - I would continue to use it in it's present form, but I'd be very surprised indeed if they didn't cock it up somehow.

It'll never happen anyway. Why would microsoft spend £15-20bn on google when they could develop equivalent or better technology for a quarter of the price?

they would never pay that money for that.
and anyway, what is so fucking wrong with microsoft? their applications work, and work with each other. they're rather good, and they made a shed load of money selling overpriced licenses to businesses around the world. they're better than most other large capitalist organisations, in that their products actually get better each year or 2, and you get free upgrades. yu certainly don't get an upgrade on your car when new technology's available.
