"oomph" is quite common around here too, used meaning force, vigour, balls, gruntiness..
I do like that other phrase, I think I'll start using it until I get banned from air travel..
meet the parents story: a friend of mine met the parents of his Norwegian girlfriend, and the father introduced himself by saying "I could build a bomb that noone could defuse" (being a bomb squad high-up).

On the first night of
meeting my ex girlfriends Mother (Her dad was away at the time) her mum said to us "I don't really care if you do it on the kitchen floor, as long as I can get to the kettle, so don't spend too much effort trying to hide it"
