it provides pleasing results, too
little techniques are often very good for styling photos.
i find that if an image looks too rough, flatten it, add 3% monochrome noise, and gaussian blur it by a fraction of a pixel. gives a nice aged look.
i still have no fucking clue what "variations" does yet.
