Oh yeah,what is anti-aliasing? I see it in Fireworks, but I don't know what it means :S

wellit takes away the blockyness from lines when they are a)not straght, b)at any angle that is not 90 or 180 degress.

the problem with it ison straight lines (i.e. flat along x/y axis) there's no need for it, yet it's still applied, making the line look blurry.

It's a technique to remove pixellisation on linestypically curves or diagonal lines on screen.
In the example of a black line on white background, instead of each pixel being either white or black, some different shades of grey will be used to stop the 'step' effect you get otherwise.
