I work in an ISP which hosts webspace and email systems.
I had a client call in compalining that no one could send email to them; all were getting bounces saying the domain was not found.
Me: I'm just checking whether anyone external to our system can see your domain, and, no there is no regestration of that domain being active.
They: We have this letter from the national domain registry.
Me: and what does it say?
They: we need to pay by the due date.
Me: When is that?
They: 5/03/04
Me: Well today's 8/03/04. Your domain registration has expired. /after some more digging/ Yes that domain is registered through another provider, you need to contact them to help you re-register your domain.
They: when will you let us get email.
Me: When you pay the national register.
this was not a scam mailout either, we'd just dealt with one of those too
