and if an operating system inspires a sense of involvement and community surely that's good?

people should should inspire a sense of involvement and community, not operating systems. And I should know, I live my days and nights developing in Linux, so I have an idea about zealotry.
Mac OS.. recently became a grown up operating system, really quite nice, unfortunately tied to overpriced hardware.

to go with my linux/W2K dual boot
personally i like both linux and OS X because using either you feel like there are people around who are willing to give you a hand with stuff when you slip up and also because with either you feel you are using a powerful tool
i don't dislike windows at all, it just doesn't inspire any emotional involvement from me

:)
I get very wound up by a lot of Mac users because, in my experience, they tend to be non-technical, but very fond of quoting Apple propaganda about how massively superior the Mac is to everything else..
I know that's unrelated, but hints of Mac zealotry have a tendency to set me off ;)
