all i know is that one computer has the modem connected to it, which then sends it to the other computers wirelessly. it says cisco systems on it. that is the extent of my knowledge

this computer of which you speak is the routing machine. Who set up that computer? Best bet is to ask them about forwarding the ports that Shareaza needs to your computer.
Without port forwarding you should be able to make outbound connections though. It's just that you wont be able to get files off people with the same problem as yourself.

I'm using it though a linux based firewall/routing box. I just forward the correct ports through.

i've had a smashing idea. i download the files on the computer with DIRECT connection to internet, and then distribute them around network. foolproof

although I don't really see why you were having a problem using it on your computer in the first place. Unless the computer with direct connection to the internet blocks the ports that Shareaza uses in both directions. In which case you'll still have a problem running it on the directly connected computer...
