If genius is one extreme of a bell curvethen I would expect that there are more geniuses alive today than there have ever been before. Perhaps we don't have as many universally recognised geniuses as we did when the world was a much smaller place.

people who are recognised in their own lifetime have immediate impact(eg. sex appeal, athletic ability, passion). we don't know who the real geniuses are, because their hasn't stood the test of time/become widely accepted yet.
