can't they make somethingthat picks up on the signal the station sends when it's time for commericals (assuming they still send that) and cuts the audio channel from the sky box to a CD for howevermany minutes
(and the picture channel to something that isn't a cunting frog or 'we switched our loans to ocean finance and now they own our house, car and power of attourney by proxy')
