indeedthey plan to drill deeper than anyone ever has into the mantle of the Earth and see what, if any, kind of bacteria survive down there. They are thinking that the conditions so deep within the Earth may be correct for turning long polymers and amino acids into simple life, a theory as to how life first started on Earth.

if they're especially lucky they might be able to show simple life being created spontaneouslyvery deep within the Earth.
