was threatened over using a vaguely similar style to Hertzfeldt all of his stuff has since been taken from his website and shoved on a dvd/cd for sale. So the one who brought us "I'm a consumer whore!" turned into a corporate whore and there my opinion of the bloke was forever sullied.

copyright protects expression, not ideas. So if I draw a hand ticking a box, I can't stop anyone else drawing a hand ticking a box unless theirs is identical to mine. Obviously there's a grey area but you really have to copy a specific thing before you're looking at infringement rather than use a similar style.
