[edit]Now with added eye-straining colorfulness! This is/was a VERY popular pattern for leather goods: purses, cell phone covers, shoes, etc. (the Louis Vuitton pattern, not the freaky eyeballs)

you don't see it near as much in America as you do in Europe though. It's really nothing that could be defined as being part of the American culture.

Not only So. Cal. but area classified as the "OC" as well (horrors!)
Every time I go to the open-air market there's about 50-gazillion knock-offs of those purses; even legitimate purse companies have thier own versions of that pattern.
