look, don't use your clever thumbnail thingie, get yourself a trial version of potatoshop or download GIMP and resize it and save it properly
that pic will look fine at about 30k, easy
PNGs are the absolute worst for optimisation (except BMPs which don't even bother trying) - only useful for the 24-bit alpha channel, meaning smooth transparent bits - and even then most browsers don't support them properly yet so no point at all really aside from importing bitmaps into flash

I've already got a full legitimate copy of CS2. :)
Anywho, I use the script because I'm rather lazy and its quick; I save the image, upload via FTP, click the link, and boom, I've got a gallery and a thumbnail in one go.
Although others are slightly right, I might try lower values for other images.
And in reply to the ninja edit you just did, PNG is ace for screenshots, or anything that can be expressed in vector format using less instructions than a JPEG would take (thats the whole idea behind PNG). If you do a screenshot on an average desktop, normally PNG is smaller than a JPEG of the same thing.

when you're on a board where users often have bandwidth limits you'll get a lot of complaints about an image that's four times bigger than it needs to be
and PNG isn't a vector format, it's a bitmap format, same as JPEG, GIF, BMP, TIF and all the rest. you're also horribly wrong about the screenshot thing too, but never mind
open up that copy of CS2 and have a play saving things at different JPEG quality settings, you'll be amazed

and he hasn`t run off in a huff like some new users on a Tuesday - NeoThermic gets a thumb up* from me and a wee "welcome to the board" type thing

i'm trying not to be mean, i really am. i was a noob not so long ago, hehe
i'm a web monkey by trade though and know tons about this crap - even how the algorithms behind JPEG and GIF compression work, although christ knows why
anyway, yes, to NeoThermic, sorry if i sounded off but learn you must young padawan

...I'm just more worried about the fact that everyone is now singing their posts as me!
Anywho, said image is now 7008 bytes. I've tweaked my auto-thumbnail script, hopefully it should generate sub-50kb thumbs.
/me cowers in a corner over all the 'NeoThermic' sigs
