Because, of course
it's the film of the book?

to be sure
The film was mildly amusing; the only thing of book-quality was Stephen Fry's narration of text taken verbatim from the book. The rest of the film was fairly average.
Better than the telly series though...

The TV series wasn't bad at all
You just had to realise that it was little more than an attempt to act out the radio series with the same actors and a very small budget.

There is only one version of HitchHilkers
The original radio series. Everything else is just other stuff (tm).

To an extent but the books and radio series went off in different directions
after a while.

It was great to hear Mark Wing-Davey in the role of Zaphod again
He didn't look the part in the TV series but his voice and the way he played the character was 100% what Zaphod should be. Plus it made up or the shitty casting for Ford in the movie.
