I`m on 2Mb broadband mate, hopefully upgrading to 24Mb in a couple of monthsbut currently have a 30GB cap, and my PC is still pretty good
I run a squid caching proxy here so all the computers don`t have to nip onto the net every time to download stuff, and block adverts on this server so none of the computers waste bandwidth downloading them - I don`t agree with the whole "get a faster connection" argument at all, given that you can max out a gigabit network using a simple ping! as said before, there`s no point having a Ferrari if you can only drive it in first gear because of the traffic
I just remember what it was like to be on a modem and don`t think the FAQ recommendations are unreasonable; and to be honest, a 400K download of a rubbish 10 second paintmash is hardly an effective use of bandwidth, and a lot of stuff posted still (unfortunately) falls under that category
but if somebody puts in a load of effort, makes something great, and it can`t be done in under 250K without looking shit, I don`t have a problem with that at all
