the ipod will reflash from that, at least my old ipod did that

# Haven't got firewire on my PC
I'll just have to wait till i get home.

It totally fucked itself yesterday, and I tried all these different solutions from various forums.

The one that eventually worked (enough to get my computer to read it anyway) was to drop it on a hard surface. It worked a treat!

# hah
my first ipod (now sold onto a friend) still works fine.
it was a 10gb 3rd gen one (buttons above the wheel), in the time I owned it I had dropped it down the stairs, kicked it across the floor and various other knocks and scrapes.
Sold it to a mate, who cleaned it up (knocked a dent out the casing) and replaced the battery. then in the same day he accidentally dropped it in his pint at the pub. it's nearly 3 years old now and it still works :)

# I had mine replaced at the start of january
just before the years warranty expired, due to battery problems. So this one's only about 3 months old, but the replacement warranty is only for 90 days, which has passed. Cunts.

But I was reading up, and i reckon i could change the drive or battery myself if required. Certainly not paying apple for servicing

# replacing the battery isn't hard, but the hard drive is a little trickier
as that involves a near total dismantlement of the ipod.
but it all depends what model you have, the newer they are the harder to fix as they keep getting smaller.

# 40 gb 4th Gen clickwheel thing
Dunno, hopefully reformatting should solve my problems, but it's taken hours just to get iPod updater to recognise it.
