Well, in my humble opinion anyway. I'd love a mesa, vader or crate but I'm having to budget myself a bit. I've seen a behriger www.thomann.de/gb/behringer_bx4410a.htm which sounds very reasonable (alu cones, etc) but I know they're a bit of a shitty make and as I'm importing I really don't want to faff about getting it then deciding it's crap.
And I've never ever played through a GK. but I need to be as loud as possible, as I've got one guitarist who's about to upgrade to a big vader cab, one with a laney that knocks your ears off and a drummer who seems to have something against his kit to contend with.
Sorry, I'll stop droning now.
Oh, and the one who's getting a vader cab uses an old 5150 head on it, just to make himself FUCKING LOUDER.

I'm always wary of amps with too many features and gimmicks crammed in. The worst amp I ever owned was a Peavey with about 1001 effects/features on board - none of which sounded decent. My favourite amp is my little marshall guitar amp, with precisely 0 features (beyond an overdrive pre-amp and EQ's) that sounds sweet as a nut for both electric and electric-acoustic stuff.
Sounds like you need an amp that goes up to 11.

Thing is I don't really want to sound sweet, more the echoic metallic rumble of the footfalls of Hades himself..... that sort of wank.
I need to sound nice and roundy and clean at the beginning of most tracks (bass takes care of that, bless her www.thomann.de/gb/spector_q4_pro_mbs.htm ), but then I need an amp with enough power to pack me forward when I'm overdriven instead of making me sound like someone jumping on a black bin sack.
*sigh* it's gonig to have to be something like the big hartke I've been looking at. It's a beast.

In summary - slightly cheap feel (as you'd expect) 'not bad' quality, but usually great features.

And with us being quite progressive I've got room to manouevre with effects....
Hmmmm.
I may have to ask my father in law, he's a bass lord.
