although you're probably on about some sites looking shit in FF..

this is down to poor execution and (i'm sure deliberate) corner cutting in IE

It's normally coders cutting corners and not realising because IE does such a good job of handling poor code.

that was my point... the coding is shit... rather than the browser...

IE rectifies the corners, which (i reckon) shouldn't happen... I'm a developer and check on FF/IE/Opera (even though its UTTER SHIT) and sometimes Safari...
