# tried for ages to give him a nice background

but nothing worked :( Make a monkey lion happy today by giving him somewhere to wander.

How do I make the white transparent? I swear it was in photoshop.

# well providing
its on its own layer with no background then save it as a .png with transparecny on. if not you will have to delete the white with the background eraser or something then save.

# Are you starting with a transparent b/g?
(Sorry if that sounds patronising) otherwise you should be looking at saving the pic as a .gif (if you are using a lot of colours) or as a .png (if you are only using a few) .jpgs don't support transparent backgrounds. Alternatively you could try playing around with .tif files and alpha channels but that's likely to make the file size quite large.

# Just save it as a .gif or .png
If you save it as a gif make sure you have "transparency" checked.

# + remember to flatten layers beforehand!

# Photoshop
"Save for web" takes care of that, and you've still got all your nice layers intact in the source file.
