hmmmmm, interesting.....I'd use the left hand area with the text at 90 degrees, for starters.
And I'd probably go with a serif font for the main text area. Edit: as well as making it clearer on that 'flock' background. Might want to fade it down a touch.

Edit Edit: How about using the idea from the recent Xbox live ads with two different carpets blending together - that gives you quite a lot of potential variations on the wallpaper theme....
