Well.We've only just finished off paying our WWII debts to America (and Canada too, I think).
I think we still owe them for WWI though. But yes, I can imagine that there was some stupid little cliquey pact in which we let them tickle our bellies. It would explain an awful lot.
Sometimes our relationship with America makes me want to be French, and that's an awful thing to wish.
