# pfft

# haha.
I had some of that as well I think ( or might have been my sister, her being the younger 'un )

I've loads of 70's and 80's hardware. I'm a hoarder of the stuff. Ols analog Marantz amps that can knock socks of my Denon. sigh, they don't make 'em like that any more.

# I was born in 1982
And I remember holding my first CD (may have been Bat out of Hell) and going 'oooh...the future!!'

# when i got my first cd player
i didn't know which way up to put the disc in
(, Tue 8 May 2007, 14:50, archived)
# the normally print on one side
indicating which way it should go up.

# I've only had a DVD player for about a year
and it still feels odd not to rewind at the end of every movie...

# I remember the first time I saw 8 track
and thought Jesus, that's cool! I'm a bit older than you ;)

# can you still get the valves for them?
(, Tue 8 May 2007, 14:51, archived)
# I doubt it very much
which saddens me as it kind of stops me using them in case they blow up and I can't use them?? eh?
(, Tue 8 May 2007, 14:54, archived)
# you actualy can get them i think
they are just more expensive.

i've seen some nice new valve based stereos, but alas they are way out of my price range for a simple home system.

# I'm sure if I chased
up at RS components there might be stuff available. I'd hope so. It's such a different sound.

# my old school
had a load of valves knocking around, are they valuable?
(, Tue 8 May 2007, 15:01, archived)
# I doubt it very much
valves were never cheap but price is all about demand and there is little of that now. Modern valve tech is quite a bit different and the old stuff is not interchangeable.

# I still use my Marantz equipment
It's true that they don't make 'em like that anymore.
High-street quality amps are certainly miles cheaper than they used to be and on the whole, they sound miles cheaper too.
And speakers? My bit fat Mission 3-ways from 1985 still sound ace.
I remember when this was all fields...

# hehe, speakers.
My Jamo 365's are still doing the job some 16 years after I bought them.
