well
the firth of forth runs is on the east coast, and is next to edinburgh.
glasgow is on the west and has the river clyde running through it.
stirling is somewhat more central but does have the river forth flowing near it.

Yeah, plus:
the flow of the river i.e. out to sea, would mean any sewage would more than likely end up in North Berwick rather than flow back up the river. I'm just all of teh fail this morning.
