There's a new series of Bionic Woman coming soon.
I saw the ad tonight. Why revive an idea that was itself just a rehash/spinoff of an earlier idea, and that sucked? I think the only rationale for this kind of thing is that people have heard of it, so it's already got some recognition factor.
Also coming soon... the sitcom version of the Geiko neanderthals. This is why I almost never watch tv.

Exactly.
Again, I think it's all down to recognition factor... people already know the 'characters' so they probably figure it gives the show a chance.
And of course the only real 'purpose' for the show, just like almost all television in the US, is to provide a context for more advertisments.

It's kinda scary, the whole familiarity thing
The other day I found myself enjoying "Rhythm is a Dancer".
The fourteen-year-old me would have totally kicked me in the nuts for that kind of thing.

Ooh Snap!
Chorus:
Rhythym is a dancer,
it's a soul's companion,
you can feel it everywhere
Lift your hands and voices
free your mind and join us
you can feel it in the air
Ooh, it's a passion
Ooh, you can feel it in the air
Ooh, it's a passion
Ooh, ooh, ooh, oh
chorus
A far away light in the futuristic place we might be,
It's a tiny world just big enough to support the kingdom of one
knowledgeable,
throw away the loneliness and head back down,
I'm going too fast, I'm going too fast
chorus
I plunge right on through the office door,
and into the arms of the bottomless negro of love,
suddenly I can't remember,
how to stop, or turn around,
Do I have to get behind myself,
Do I have to turn around before I can point,
I flip 'til I can breathe
chorus

Were the lyrics "serious as cancer" actually in there, or did I just make that bit up?

I actually just googled it and c&p'd without reading it.
I now notice the line "into the arms of the bottomless negro of love".
Er...

Er...
Well, if your negro of love doesn't have a bottom
then the arms are the next best thing.
