All the birds that crossed when the man was red died and so couldn't pass on their genes.
The birds that preferred to wait for a green signal lived and bred.
Soon all the birds in the world will only move when a green stick figure is visible. It's the future.

It may well be that the birds that use the cars to crack nuts are more intelligent, thus they survive to make more birds. What will happen to them if the sequence of the lights change or we run out of oil is another matter.*
