I would say..that if/when you draw an Anime/Manga style picture there are certain constraints. Such as eyes, body shape & huge norks.
I don't there is much freedom you can move around in. If you do stray to far from the path, it wont be anime/manga.
I don't think that she was trying to draw a picture in that style but used something common as a basic to start practising.
Must say though, looks like a self portrait to me. And she does have fine norks in real life.

i guess you have to start somewhereand it's good to get some confidence by showing yourself that you can do what other people do, before you go off and do your own thing.
it's a bit like music, you don't go straight in to writing symhphony in 3.5 parts for lute, milkbottle and timpani, you learn the basics first, whether it's blues or classical or whatever.
i think the person's first attempt is very good, nurture that talent! (he says jealously)
