I agree with the jumping and the beaten up bass. It sounds less jazz, more awesome! ;D

he used to do a basic bass line on a loop pedal and then solo over it and to finish he'd climb on top of an amp stack and jump down to switch off the pedal.
if you can find it on youtube its really impressive
