# It's named after 'Laputa', the flying island city state from Gulliver's Travels.
"Part Three - A Voyage to Laputa, Balnibarbi, Luggnagg, Glubbdubdrib, and Japan".

# Nausicäa is awesome. The style can vary quite a bit from spartan to overwhelming, but it's a big inspiration for Laputa.
But it's the trailer for 'Whisper of the Heart' on all those DVDs that haunted me until I bought it. It's full of imagery like references to films that hadn't been made yet, and the way you don't realise the song is 'Country Roads' sung in Japanese until the end of the trailer is perfect timing. It was a big thing for them because the director snuffed it soon after it was finished. Look out for the girl and the cat sitting on the train as copied in 'Spirited Away', and a Kiki-like witch in a hanging decoration. 'The Cat Returns' is supposed to be a story written by the girl in this film.

# I noticed loads of little references in that movie

# One of the best Miyazakis.
Love the Welsh/Cornish/Japanese mining town with its elevated railways, the ironclad airships, and the engineer who SEGA copied for Dr. Robotnik.
