You see...
...this is where we differ. I went to public school from the age of 4 till I was 17, then on to University... and in my own personal experience, stereotypes aside, Rugby really WAS all about the bum fun for the public schoolboy types who enjoyed that kind of thing.
I can however understand how rugby has different connotations... if you're a coal miner... or working class... or welsh. :D

I'm not excusing football - I've known some right twats who've played football...
