# Do you mean in the tray thing down the bottom
or in control panel/network connections?

Sorry, I know we're being dim.

# Control Panel > Network Connections, I believe.

# It's not saying 'wired connection' or 'ethernet connection'
anywhere. I'm very confused. You're dead sweet for trying to help though, it must be like trying to teach physics to a snail.

"Burn a Ubuntu Live CD".
Ubuntu's pretty good with laptops and wireless now, and you can run it without installing anything. If Ubuntu can work it then at least you know the wireless card is functioning properly.

# But if it doesn't work
how do I put XP back on? I didn't install it, it came with it.

Bless you, I know, I'm infuriating.

# Live CDs don't install anything,
it runs off the CD.
Very handy.
Just burn it, stick it in and reboot.
