# Vista failed?
(, Fri 25 Apr 2008, 11:42, archived)
# Actually, XP.
So far over the past 2 days, I've repaired it once, formatted my drives twice and installed it fresh twice, and then this morning it corrupted on my C:\ drive, so I've installed it on D:\ and formatted the C:\ partition.

It's getting silly. I got a call from Dell though and my new PC will be here Monday. With Vista.

# and then the hell begins
:D

I've had to reinstall twice

something that worked straight away before now just plum won't fucking work at all and the installer was even bursting into flames too

bloody crappy fucking shitty computers

# Oh shit.
I'm going to get raped by it, aren't I?
(, Fri 25 Apr 2008, 11:55, archived)
# nah
i got a dell with vista on it and it's ok. just reinstall it as soon as you get it to clear out dell's enormously irritating programs, and their stupid service partition that's about the most useless thing in the world, and then it works fine. except for the audio, which is shit.

edit: plus if you were as silly as me and accepted their default broadcom wireless card you've no truck putting linux on the machine, and even putting xp on is an entertaining task leading to a couple of delightful weekends and then deleting xp

# Ah, I doubt I'll get a install disc. I'll just partition magic it away and kill off the lousy Dell rubbish. :)
(, Fri 25 Apr 2008, 12:03, archived)
# A very wise move
I left it about five months before clearing out Dell's nonsense. It runs rather better now.

# it's 50/50
some people fucking love it

some people fucking hate it

/not at all bitter about expensive Creative Labs sound card not actually being able to record what it's currently playing despite a cheap PCI128 on Windows 98 being able to do this eight years ago blog

# The most irritating thing
is that it makes graphic and sound cards and so forth - for any OS - more expensive, less powerful, and less likely to work, all in the name of stopping Vista users doing something.
