# I'd
agree with Darkedge, an AV AMP would make it a lot easier, and it would sound a whole lot better....

# If only.
can't afford it tho. :(

# after buying the wifi
& a laptop .. noo..

I laugh in your general direction!

Sorry but it all sounds like a travesty runing good DVD films & TV by using such an inferior setup. But hey - your choice.

# Like I say,
wifi 50 quid a piece and the lappy is from work.

and you can't dis the quality unless you see it.

# I can
if is on a laptop with laptop speakers & Screen

esp when you are comparing it to a decent screen & a 6.1 sounds system - yes it's crap (in my opinion) & cannot be good. Ok?
(, Mon 24 Feb 2003, 14:30, archived)
# Fair enough.
But the laptop isn't the primary display - thats the point. Its only used if we wanna watch something outside the living room.
(, Mon 24 Feb 2003, 14:31, archived)
# I know
I just wouldn't want to watch it outside the living room.. mind you if you only have PC speakers for the sound in the living room theres not much difference.

;)

# If I wanted a perfect picture
I wouldn't be using a ps2. tis good enough for me's anyhoo.

# V true
why not spend £30 and get a DVD drive for the pc?
(, Mon 24 Feb 2003, 14:41, archived)
# Got one in the PC,
but wanted to be able to stream the video while the PC could still be used, so windows media encoder just runs minimised and streams the input from the tv card. works fine!
(, Mon 24 Feb 2003, 14:43, archived)
# err
share the DVD drive and decode it on the lappy.

Best quality and you will only be using the wifi & DVD drive. no encoding & v little CPU usage.
That'll be best really - as you can control it completly from the Lappy.

# Wouldn't get Telewest broadcast that way though
so it'd still need to be plumbed in this way.
(, Mon 24 Feb 2003, 14:49, archived)
# true - but you swap to the encoder for telewest
when you need it (remode control the pc from the lappy)..
best all round - the hookup is the same though.

# Oooh look!
We've gone all skinny now!

# but
you know I'm right - don't you?
(, Mon 24 Feb 2003, 14:53, archived)
# Depends.
When I get a payrise I'll replace the whole fecking lot anyways, but for now, its sweet. :D

# no, more more!!!
I like to watch AV whores whoring it about. I'm going to go home and tickle my amp.

# erm. ive done that exact same thing
and ive got a natty life book widescreen laptop. the annoying thing is im still waiting for work to buy the wifi (main reason for wifi is coz i live close to work so i can work from home using wifi)

add a snes and a neo geo to that setup and then sneak in a zx81 and a bbc micro for ultimate in geekery. and wipeout fusion sucks. no dr. get wip3out. the best.
(, Mon 24 Feb 2003, 14:39, archived)
# Errr,
got them all on the laptop as emulators. am very ill at the moment so very bored. :)
(, Mon 24 Feb 2003, 14:40, archived)
# its not the same.
its nice to have a 30 min gap between games due to loading times and really badly designed pads. havign sed that, the amiga emu i got on the xbox is ace. sensi soccer is miles better with xbox pad.

# I hope you are virtually
inside the building you work at..

best range most of the time with wifi is 50 ft. a bit crap really.
(, Mon 24 Feb 2003, 14:42, archived)
# If you wanna work from home properly,
sort out broadband and a vpn connection - thats your best (and safest) way.
(, Mon 24 Feb 2003, 14:44, archived)
# theres no broadband in tangmere
i just moved here, left behind a 1meg cable. i live 200 meters from work, and 800meter wifi is available now. and its an ex-airfield i live on, with line of site to work. plus they got a T1 that i wanna abuse. (and i know what im doing, im a network manager - im just a cheap skate bastard one thats all)
