just do what I didand tell the Aussie how POME means 'prisoner of mother england' which actually refers to the convicts themselves. So in essence, a pome is actually an Aussie...the look on their face is priceless!

yah no-one is quite sure of the entomologyI think that POME or POHM is largely accepted as a bacronym. OED goes for the pomegranate story, but I think the origins are probably lost to history.
