Thank God for a piece of titanium.The other thing being that if I ever fall out of a space craft of some type, and start to plummet back to Earth (or whatever planet i happen to be in orbit around), at least that part of my finger that is protected by the ring will be unharmed while the rest of me burns to a crisp.
