# hand poked?
do you do tatooing a lot then? or is it not actually that difficult...
(, Tue 17 Jun 2008, 1:21, archived)
# it's on me, not by me
and it's my tenth, and easily the nicest tattoo experience by a long stretch.
much reccommended!

# oh is it less painful then?
or did ya just get a nice cool hippy vibe not relying on machines, man, cause like... machines... man. trying to enslave us.

:)

# yeah, much less
with a machine tattoo, it essentially carves a shallow wound in the skin which is filled with ink. it causes a lot of tissue truama, lots of swelling and lymphatic tissue.
handpoked ones: the needle goes vertically in and out [no dragging] and because the needle is so fine the tiny wound closes up immediately. so there's much less tissue trauma, so less pain, swelling, redness, etc. etc. etc. Heals faster and bolder, no scar tissue obscuring the ink.

# yeah that's awesome
do they charge you extra for it though? cause obviously they spend longer doing it...
and do most places do this? cause i would have thought it's like different technique isnt it?

it's awesome anyway
my my biggest dream is to have this huge whole chest thing i kinda have half-planned out in my head, or sleeves but i doubt i'll ever get them. i'm always too scared to get anything too dramatic, cause i do intend to function in polite society at some point. ha.

says me who can't get a job most places cause of silly lip rings :)

# artists usually pay by the hour
so you'll have to book longer to get the same size piece done. and bear in mind that the colour has to be built up layer after layer, so bold/dark colours take longer than pale work.

equipment-wise, it's really minimal. a regular tattoo needle, wrapped in tissue paper to give a better grip, and ink. that's about it.

very different technique. it's all built up in teeny tiny dots, rather than drawn on like a pen. best to find someone who specialises than ask a regular tattoo artist to have a go at it/

get the chest piece! it'd be covered up by clothes anyway! i have a fair bit of work done, but none of it is visible under everyday clothes. i also have my ear piercings stretched but with plugs in it's very rarely noticed/commented on. i think it'sbecause the rest of me looks so vanilla!

# yeah, well obviously, something permanent on your skin,
you're not just gonna ask someone to bodge it for ya :)

and i might do...
i reckon i'd need to be a bit buffer though
chest tatoos look pretty good if you've got nice muscly upper body, shows it off i guess. but i'm skinny as hell, so that may not happen

sleeves look pretty good on skinny guys though. like have you seen frank from gallows? as much as him n his band's a little bit annoying, his sleeves do look pretty hardcore

# if you're a skinny guy getting sleeves you need to be epicly skinny.
neither of us are skinny enough really

# I find the concept of dueling with you laughable.
As a fight usually implies some degree of uncertainty. On this occasion though, I would destroy you.
