# I got my degree today
so to celebrate, I bought myself this:

Clickie (64KB)

All hand-poked without a tattoo machine.

How was your monday today?

# Thats pritty awesome :)
Mine was shite. I had an exam then felt like shit so slept a lot.
(, Tue 17 Jun 2008, 1:21, archived)
# aww, that sucks
hope the exam went okay!
(, Tue 17 Jun 2008, 1:25, archived)
# not really, but congratulations on your degree!
(, Tue 17 Jun 2008, 1:27, archived)
# thank you!
*happies*
(, Tue 17 Jun 2008, 1:30, archived)
# That must have taken a while.
Looks a bit pale though :(
(, Tue 17 Jun 2008, 1:21, archived)
# two and a half hours, with a break for foods in the middle.
I wanted it soft grey, i can always have it darkened later, if i want.
apparently it'll heal darker than it is now.

was the most satisfying and peaceful tattoos i've ever had. none of that buzzing and swiping and stuff. hurt a lot less too!
(, Tue 17 Jun 2008, 1:25, archived)
# Awesome!
Congrats on the BSc (Hons) by the way :)
(, Tue 17 Jun 2008, 1:28, archived)
# thank you!
i promise i'll only squee over the letters after my name for a day or so...
(, Tue 17 Jun 2008, 1:31, archived)
# The Squeeing is perfectly normal and will clear up by itself over the next few days.
(, Tue 17 Jun 2008, 1:35, archived)
# hand poked?
do you do tatooing a lot then? or is it not actually that difficult...
(, Tue 17 Jun 2008, 1:21, archived)
# it's on me, not by me
and it's my tenth, and easily the nicest tattoo experience by a long stretch.
much reccommended!
(, Tue 17 Jun 2008, 1:26, archived)
# oh is it less painful then?
or did ya just get a nice cool hippy vibe not relying on machines, man, cause like... machines... man. trying to enslave us.

:)
(, Tue 17 Jun 2008, 1:29, archived)
# yeah, much less
with a machine tattoo, it essentially carves a shallow wound in the skin which is filled with ink. it causes a lot of tissue truama, lots of swelling and lymphatic tissue.
handpoked ones: the needle goes vertically in and out [no dragging] and because the needle is so fine the tiny wound closes up immediately. so there's much less tissue trauma, so less pain, swelling, redness, etc. etc. etc. Heals faster and bolder, no scar tissue obscuring the ink.
(, Tue 17 Jun 2008, 1:34, archived)
# yeah that's awesome
do they charge you extra for it though? cause obviously they spend longer doing it...
and do most places do this? cause i would have thought it's like different technique isnt it?

it's awesome anyway
my my biggest dream is to have this huge whole chest thing i kinda have half-planned out in my head, or sleeves but i doubt i'll ever get them. i'm always too scared to get anything too dramatic, cause i do intend to function in polite society at some point. ha.

says me who can't get a job most places cause of silly lip rings :)
(, Tue 17 Jun 2008, 1:39, archived)
# artists usually pay by the hour
so you'll have to book longer to get the same size piece done. and bear in mind that the colour has to be built up layer after layer, so bold/dark colours take longer than pale work.

equipment-wise, it's really minimal. a regular tattoo needle, wrapped in tissue paper to give a better grip, and ink. that's about it.

very different technique. it's all built up in teeny tiny dots, rather than drawn on like a pen. best to find someone who specialises than ask a regular tattoo artist to have a go at it/

get the chest piece! it'd be covered up by clothes anyway! i have a fair bit of work done, but none of it is visible under everyday clothes. i also have my ear piercings stretched but with plugs in it's very rarely noticed/commented on. i think it'sbecause the rest of me looks so vanilla!
(, Tue 17 Jun 2008, 1:50, archived)
# yeah, well obviously, something permanent on your skin,
you're not just gonna ask someone to bodge it for ya :)

and i might do...
i reckon i'd need to be a bit buffer though
chest tatoos look pretty good if you've got nice muscly upper body, shows it off i guess. but i'm skinny as hell, so that may not happen

sleeves look pretty good on skinny guys though. like have you seen frank from gallows? as much as him n his band's a little bit annoying, his sleeves do look pretty hardcore
(, Tue 17 Jun 2008, 1:56, archived)
# if you're a skinny guy getting sleeves you need to be epicly skinny.
neither of us are skinny enough really

'fun'
(, Tue 17 Jun 2008, 2:15, archived)
# I'm Bedlam
let's fight
(, Tue 17 Jun 2008, 2:18, archived)
# I find the concept of dueling with you laughable.
As a fight usually implies some degree of uncertainty. On this occasion though, I would destroy you.
(, Tue 17 Jun 2008, 2:26, archived)
# are you calling me fat mister o' bedlam :p
(, Tue 17 Jun 2008, 2:06, archived)

# where can you get hand tatts done?
(, Tue 17 Jun 2008, 1:22, archived)
# ON YOUR HANDS
NOWHERE ELSE.
(, Tue 17 Jun 2008, 1:24, archived)
# pffft
(, Tue 17 Jun 2008, 1:24, archived)
# damn you you quick bastardly genius :)
(, Tue 17 Jun 2008, 1:24, archived)
# i'm guessing somewhere in the region
between your fingers nails and your wrist
s'just not yer hand otherwise...
(, Tue 17 Jun 2008, 1:24, archived)
# it was done at Metal Guru
in Stockton [just up the road from Middlesbrough]
If you've got the time and patience, I'd really reccommend having it by hand. sure it takes longer, but hurts much less, it's all peaceful and relaxing; there's much less tissue trauma so they heal better, no bleeding at all, no lymph and flaking.
(, Tue 17 Jun 2008, 1:29, archived)
# sounds good.
i've got three so far, one of which is totally fucked and i really regret. i think i wouldn't mind paying extra for quality in future
(, Tue 17 Jun 2008, 1:38, archived)
# yeah, i have a big piece down my spine
that is utter crap and i hate.
eventually i'll get it covered up or something.
definitely learned to check out my artists more thoroughly! it's worth a few extra quid to be happy with a piece. it is there forever, after all.
(, Tue 17 Jun 2008, 1:53, archived)
# exactly mine was a "i'm 16 and just want a tattoo, i don't care what it looks like"
we were all young once right?
(, Tue 17 Jun 2008, 1:56, archived)
# Excellent. Congrats.
(, Tue 17 Jun 2008, 1:23, archived)

(, Tue 17 Jun 2008, 1:53, archived)
