it was referred to at the end when the doc was talking to wilf and her mumsomething along the lines of 'That Donna is now dead' - after he wiped her mind of the memories relating to travelling with him. At least, that's how I interpreted it.

I assumed so.It was all a bit 'rushed' and 'tricky' to follow. God knows how kids kept up with it. I can only assume the shoehorning in of every single strand mentioned throughout 4 seasons was washed over with the kids by having lots of loud shouty dialogue and explosions and spinning daleks
