yeahthe problem is, most compos require some degree of skill and/or effort to get right (which is why I hardly ever attempt them), so you just get a load of shittery and pearoasts which have nothing to do with the actual compo, but which drown out the good entries and usually reach the top spots

I prefer to think of the compo as inspiration to those that don't know what to shop/draw/etcBut I'm not really good at teh hummus that comes with compos so I don't try often.
