# It's pretty old, yeah.
It does this every couple of days. Oh, it's just turned on now after 20 minutes of trying.
It also occasionally turns itself off while switched on.

# My TV does that occasionally
Picture cuts out (but not sound) - only image on screen is a flickering line.
I found that turning it off, smacking the back casing a few times, then turning it back on works...
The set is maybe 10-15 years old.

# Mine turns itself off entirely.
No sound or anything. It sometimes turns itself back on again after a few seconds though.

# Sounds like it's knackered
Failing capacitor or summat. Recommend you scrap it and buy a nice new one.

John Lewis give a 5-year warranty on all new tellies, which is nice. Richer Sounds is pretty good too...
